South Africa were bundled out by Sri Lanka, in their 1st Innings, for just 222 – but for Aiden Markram 60 and Quinton de Kock 86, South Africa would have been in real trouble. Dhananjaya de Silva 2-15, Vishwa Fernando 3-62 and Kasun Rajitha 3-67 were the top performers with the ball for Sri Lanka.
At the close of play on the first day, Sri Lanka were 60-3, Duanne Olivier (2-25) picking up two wickets, and they trail South Africa by 162 runs with 7 wickets remaining.
