The round up of the second day’s play in the SpecSavers County Championship Division 1 matches - Hampshire v Surrey, Lancashire v Essex and Somerset v Nottinghamshire.

Hampshire v Surrey, Ageas Bowl, Southampton

On the second day of this SpecSavers County Championship Division 1 match, Rory Burns, moved to 151 from his overnight score of 109* before being bowled by Hampshire’s Brad Taylor. Ben Foakes 90 and Ollie Pope 41 helped Surrey to a total of 368 all out.

Surrey 368 (Rory Burns 151 Ben Foakes 90,Ollie Pope 41; Fidel Edwards 5-93) 

Hampshire  135 (Rilee Rossouw 46 ;Rikki Clarke 5-29)  at close of play.

Hampshire, in reply, 135 all out   at close of play with  Rilee Rossouw 43. Rikki Clarke 5-29 was the pick of the Surrey bowlers. Hampshire trail Surrey by 233 runs.

Lancashire v Essex, Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester

Lancashire were all out for 301 , only adding 4 runs to their overnight score of 297-9 in their County Championship match against Essex.

Lancashire 301 (Jordan Clark 79, Shivnarine Chanderpaul 58; Sam Cook 3-65, Simon Harmer 3-35 )

Essex  221-6  ( Alastair Cook 58, Tom Westley 41,Ryan ten Doeschate 48; Joe Mennie 3-40) at close of play.

In reply, Essex made 221-6 mainly due to Alastair Cook 58, Tom Westley 41 and skipper, Ryan ten Doeschate 48. Joe Mennie 3-40 was the pick of the Lancashire bowlers and Adam Wheater was 31 not out at the close of play, after rain called a halt to any further paly.

 

Somerset v Nottinghamshire, The Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton

Somerset were all out for 392, adding 85 runs to their overnight score of 307-6, mainly due to wicket keeper Steve Davies 90*. Notts spinner, Matthew Carter collected another wicket to make his  5fer (5-113).

Somerset 392 (Matthew Renshaw 106; Steve Davies 90*;Matthew Carter 5-113)

Nottinghamshire 134 (Craig Overton 4-53); Followed on  112-0 (Steven Mullaney 54*, Jake Libby 54*) at close of play.

In reply, Nottinghamshire were bowled out for 134, mainly due to Craig Overton 4-53 and were asked to follow on. At close of play, Steven Mullaney 54* and Jake Libby 54* took them to a respectable 112-0.
