Steve O'Keefe faces ban and fine for misconduct
Australia left-arm spinner Steve O'Keefe has been banned from limited over matches for New South Wales this year and also was slammed a $20,000 fine by Cricket Australia for his offensive comments.while intoxicated.
The incident happened in the after-party following Steve Waugh Medal presentation and this was his second offence in the last nine months.
The 32-year-old was handed a $10,000 fine by the Australian board in August, after he was found guilty of breaching the code of behaviour following the criminal infringement notice that was served to O'Keefe by the New South Wales Police for involving in a verbal altercation with a security guard at The Steyne Hotel in Sydney.
O'Keefe issued a public apology and is hoping to get his issue address with a "specialist counselling".
"At an official Cricket NSW function I became intoxicated and made highly inappropriate comments.
"There is no excuse for this and I take full responsibility and offer an unconditional apology.
"I accept the sanctions imposed by Cricket Australia and Cricket NSW and welcome the chance to receive specialist counselling.
"I have a big challenge ahead and I am determined to meet it with actions, not just words. To all of the members of the cricket family I love and respect so much, again, apologies for letting you down."
Recently O'Keefe had a very successful tour of India where he picked 12 wickets in the first Test in Pune leading Australia to their first win in the format since 2004.
