Stirling County 152/10 beat Callander CC 58/10
Sunday 30th April saw us open our league campaign with a home match against Stirling County. With the usual early season difficulties of getting a full team it saw us go with a very junior side with 5 U16s making up the first XI.
Having lost the toss we were put in to field and the first 6 overs were poor but Roy Pearson taking the 1st wicket gave the skipper a chance to regroup the team and with Stirling on 36/1 the team bounded back with some excellent bowling from the U16s Angus, Max, Drew and Jonny they managed to reduce the opposition to 79/8 but a good partnership and some big hits from SCCC skipper Paul Bielby managed to get Stirling up to 152 all out, that last wicket coming out of some outstanding wicket keeping and slip teamwork from Murray Parsons & Barry McGeachy (wk).
The run chase got off to a steady start despite Roy going early Kyle Allan & Andrew Leishman started to get the scoreboard ticking but when Andrew went with the score on 21/2 it all unravelled when Stirlings left arm spinner came on ripping through the Callander batting line up and exposing the inexperienced tail with us collapsing to 58 all out.
Despite the batting woes the team were brilliant in the field and the U16s really stepped up.
Kyle Allan 15
Angus Parsons 12
Craig Wyllie 10
Roy Pearson 7-0-40-4
Craig Wyllie 5.3-0-30-3
Jonathon Maskrey 2-1-2-2
Angus Parsons 6-3-12-1
Overall a really enjoyable match despite the result and plenty of positives to take away. We now look forward to next Sunday and the local Derby against Doune Cricket Club at the Grazings.
