Stuart Broad replaces Liam Plunkett in England ODI squad
Stuart Broad's performance in the ongoing Test series against South Africa has reaped benefits as he has been named as the replacement for the injured Liam Plunkett in the England One-Day International squad.
Plunkett was originally named as the replacement for Steven Finn after the latter was ruled out of the tour suffering a side strain during the third Test against South Africa in Johannesburg.
A media release issued by the England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed that Plunkett suffered a thigh strain earlier in the week and will continue to remain with the England Lions squad that is playing Pakistan A in the United Arab Emirates.
Broad, on the other hand, last played an ODI for England in March 2015 during the World Cup and was subsequently overlooked in order to preserve him for the longer format.
He played a pivotal role for his side in the third Test with an eight-wicket haul that helped England claim the series victory against South Africa and also reached the number one spot in the International Cricket Council Test rankings for bowlers.
Plunkett will however remain in contention for the Twenty20 International series against South Africa which begins on 19th February.
