Tharanga, Fletcher get Sylhet Sixers to a winning start in BPL 2017
Sylhet Sixers 137-1 (Tharanga 69no) beat
Dhaka Dynamites 136-7 (Sangakkara 32) by nine wickets
First game, Bangladesh Premier League, Sylhet
Upul Tharanga and Andre Fletcher slammed unbeaten half-centuries to help Sylhet Sixers chase down 137 runs in the 17th over with nine wickets in hand in the opening game of the Bangladesh Premier League at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Chasing a modest total of 137 runs, Fletcher (63) and Tharanga (69 not out) smashed five boundaries and three sixes between them to bring their 50-run opening stand inside the powerplay.
Even though, the introduction of Adil Rashid (1-31) slowed things down, both the batsmen went past their respective half-centuries as the home side looked at ease during the run chase.
Rashid did manage to get a breakthrough when he removed Fletcher in the 16th over, ending a massive 125 run opening stand but Tharanga ensured he saw the team through the chase, helping Sylhet Sixers reach the target in 16.5 overs with nine wickets in hand.
Earlier, Sylhet Sixers won the toss and invited Dhaka Dynamites to bat first. Evin Lewis (26), Kumar Sangakkara (32), Shakib Al Hasan (23) and Cameron Delport (20) were the only players to make a decent contribution but the hosts riding on two wicket hauls from Nasir Hossain (2-21), Abul Hasan (2-24) and Liam Plunkett (2-20) did well to pull back things and reduce them to 136 for seven in the 20 overs.
