The Caribbean Experience: Day Three Blog
This is going to be a daily blog in which I share my adventures travelling around St Lucia, with help from the tourist board, CPL and Coco Palms Hotel to bring you the most entertaining sights and moments I can.
Today was a fairly relaxed day, after a long day speeding around the island on boats, and some upcoming activity days; on today’s agenda - enjoy the cricket!
St Lucia Zouks haven’t made that particularly hard to do, playing some much improved cricket with Darren Sammy playing a part again in a victory, this time over the Barbados Tridents.
Zouks' bowling was better than it has been so far this tournament and they managed to restrict Barbados, before chasing down a target of 131 in a rain effected match.
Shortly afterwards we had the chance to briefly speak to Shane Watson; I managed to film it (in a rather strange room if truth be told), so look out for that online once I’m back.
I did ask him "What’s it like playing in St Lucia?" and got an answer I could have probably guessed, it’s the people and passion behind the sport and the island in general.
Shane said: "St Lucia, certainly, the crowd and the fans here are amazing. To be able to see how everyone is really behind the Zouks is amazing.
"Whether you’re walking down the street or on the field it’s incredible the support we get."
And I can only echo those sentiments, as everyone I’ve met or spoken to has a smile and a kind word to say – and in particular, our taxi drivers so far have been so knowledgeable about the island. It’s nice to see people so interested in their country.
Finally, to finish out the day, I enjoyed some food, and after hours of course, a nice moonlight swim while the band played away for the guests enjoying themselves at the Coco Palms bar.
Our thanks to the team at the St Lucia Tourist Board for their assistance with this trip.
