The Cricketers Club Enjoys Successful 2007

Worcestershire ace Graeme Hick was one of the popular guest speakers at The Cricketers Club of London in 2007. In October, the 41-year-old told members and guests that he was already in training for next season and intended to continue playing as long as he stayed injury-free. Other top names at The Club’s famous ‘Last Tuesday In The Month’ lunches during the year included Justin Langer, Chris Read and Phil DeFreitas. Most recently it’s been the ladies’ turn, with new ECB Head of Women’s Cricket, Clare Connor, speaking in November. Then, on 06 December, The Cricketers Club staged a Ladies Day with players and management from the England Women’s Team as guests. Speakers were medium-pacer Ebony Rainford-Brent and top scorer Claire Taylor who, in 2006, made the highest individual score in a one-day game at Lord’s – by men or women – when she hit 156no against India. MC for the day was Sheila Stewart who was accompanied by husband Micky. Leading the way in the new year will be Chris Adams who, last summer, led Sussex to their third Championship title in five years. He is speaker on Tuesday 29 January and Darren Gough will quick-step his way to The Cricketers Club on Tuesday 26 February. Membership of The Cricketers Club of London costs £160 per year if you live within the London Boroughs while country membership is £100. There is an additional payment of £50 to open your account at The Club. This is yours to spend and, as a member, you receive 10% food and drinks discount.
