Tim Paine Speaks Following Day One Against Derbyshire

Resting Australia captain Tim Paine spoke to the media following the opening day’s play of the three-day tour match against Derbyshire at Derby on Thursday.

After bowling the home side out for 172, Australia was 0-77 at stumps with Marcus Harris unbeaten on 52 and captain Usman Khawaja on 18.

Derby won the toss and batted but was 2-0 in the fourth over after Michael Neser claimed wickets with successive balls.

The Queensland seamer took the first three wickets to fall, finishing with 3-31. Fast bowler Mitch Starc claimed three later order wickets in one over to finish with 3-46.

Australia One-Day and Twenty20 vice-captain Alex Carey, who is currently playing County Cricket for Sussex, is wicket-keeping in the match, allowing Paine to rest.

The Ashes Test series is level at one all with Australia claiming the first Test at Edgbaston by 251 runs, the second Test at Lord’s ending in a draw and England winning the third Test at Headingley by one wicket.

The fourth Test begins at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
