Middlesex have confirmed that pace bowler Toby Roland-Jones has been ruled out of the remainder of the domestic season with a stress fracture.

The 29-year-old suffered the blow during Middlesex's recently concluded County Championship game against Lancashire where he left the field after bowling 10.4 overs in the first innings before contributing with a half-century with the bat.

After an impressive haul of 17 wickets from four Tests that includes a five-fer on his debut against South Africa, Roland-Jones was all set to be named in the Ashes squad that will be announced next Wednesday but now have to undergo a rehabilitation period on the sidelines.

A statement released by the English county club confirmed that Roland-Jones underwent a scan on Thursday that revealed a damage to his L5 vertebra (lower back).

Despite, losing Roland-Jones early in the game, Middlesex went on to complete a 36 run win over Lancashire at Lord's and are positioned fifth in the table with 143 points.
