Ireland are virtually assured of a place in the 2015 World Cup after comfortably beating the Netherlands in the first of two World Cricket League Championship matches in Amstelveen. William Porterfield and Niall O'Brien were the men who did the damage with the bat, adding 125 for the third-wicket, while the Dutch were then skittled for just 148 in their pursuit of Ireland's 236.

The ICC Intercontinental Cup match between Ireland and United Arab Emirates in Sharjah ended in a high-scoring draw as four players scored centuries. Ed Joyce, Niall O'Brien and Khurram Khan in the first innings and then William Porterfield in the second innings reached three figures in a game in which 1,137 runs were scored and just 19 wickets taken.

Ireland have named their 14-man squad for the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier which takes place in the United Arab Emirates in March. The squad shows just three changes from that which famously upset England during the 2011 World Cup as Rory McCann replaces Niall O'Brien, Max Sorensen is also selected and Andre Botha has retired.

Dazzling centuries from Niall O'Brien and Mal Loye frustrated India as their tour game against Northamptonshire was drawn with the home side finishing ahead of India's score. After India declared on 352 for nine, O'Brien and Loye added 201 for the first wicket and following some part-time offerings from Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir, some late hitting saw Northamptonshire close on 355 for seven.

Ireland beat Namibia by 26 runs in the first of two one-day games held in Belfast as Namibia's tour finally got underway following the abandonment of the ICC Intercontinental Cup match. Ireland had half-centuries from John Mooney (86) and Niall O'Brien (57) to thank as they reached 241 before being bowled out before they dismissed Namibia for 215 in reply.

Ireland have been forced to make a change to their squad to play Pakistan in two One-Day International later this month, replacing Niall O'Brien with Andrew Poynter. Wicket-keeper O'Brien, recently capped by Northamptonshire, suffered a hairline fracture of his left hand after being hit by Simon Jones of Hampshire during a match-winning innings of 121 in the Clydesdale Bank 40.

Wicket-keeper Niall O'Brien and fast bowler Chaminda Vaas have been awarded their county caps by Northamptonshire as a reward for an impressive start to the season. O'Brien, who joined the Steelbacks in 2007, has hit three centuries in 2011 while Vaas, who was outstanding in the 2010 FP t20 competition, has played his part in ensuring an unbeaten start to the season for Northamptonshire.
