Adelaide Strikers have confirmed Australia batsman Travis Head as the new captain of the side for the upcoming edition of Big Bash League.

Head will take over the leadership from veteran batsman Brad Hogg, whose contract was not renewed by the franchise after a disappointing 2016/17 season.

The 23-year-old has scored 614 runs at a strike-rate of 141.47 from 26 games since his debut in 2013 while also playing a handy role with the ball. Head also remains the only batsman from the Strikers to score a century in the history of the tournament.

"It's a privilege to be named captain," Head said.

"We've got such an exciting squad this season and a good mix of youth and experience. We've got amazing fans, an incredible home ground at Adelaide Oval and I know the guys are really hungry to have success.

"There's good continuity in the team with a few players who have stuck with us for several years plus a few big recruits like Colin Ingram, Rashid Khan and Peter Siddle. We can't wait to get started."

Adelaide Strikers will host Sydney Thunder in their opening game of the tournament on 22nd December.
