UAE D10: ECB Blues book top spot with Meiyappan spell
The top of the table contest between Sharjah Bukhatir XI and ECB Blues in the Emirates D10 tournament was expected to be the highlight of the day. But when the contest ended well past midnight here at the ICC Academy Oval 2 ground, Sharjah Bukhatir XI fell short in the battle as they went down by 16 runs against ECB Blues.

Asked to bat first ECB Blues posted 112 for five in their allotted 10 overs. The lead scorer for ECB Blues was Muhammad Usman (45 not out: 22b; 2x4, 3x6). There were useful contributions from Rohan Mustafa (26) and Vriitya Aravind (22) as well. The most successful bowlers for Sharjah Bukhari XI were Shyam Ramesh (2-18) and Umair Ali (2-23).
In their chase, Sharjah Bukhatir XI post wickets at regular intervals and never really got going. Khalid Shah (20) and Shyam Ramesh (20) contributed well but it was never threatening enough for ECB Blues. For ECB Blues the best bowlers were medium-fast bowler Kashif Daud (2-13) and exciting young leg-spinner Kartik Meiyappan (2-12). At 19, Meiyappan is rated very highly in the domestic cricket circuit in UAE and is expected to be a regular in the national team. He showed that the hype around him was worth it by picking up two wickets in the only over he bowled to give ECB Blues a slot at the top of the points table.
