Victoria beat South Africa by 53 runs in tour match
Victoria XI 258 (Gotch 53) beat
South Africans 205-4 (Amla 81no) by 53 runs
Tour game, 50-over match, Melbourne
A clinical bowling performance from Victoria XI kept South Africans in check during a chase of 259 runs in the tour game in Melbourne.
The game was played in day-night conditions to give South Africa some practice with the pink ball ahead of the Adelaide Test against Australia.
South Africa won the toss and elected to field. Kagiso Rabada (3-37) looked in red hot form as he dismissed Rob Quiney (4), skipper Aaron Finch (17) and and Ian Holland (11).
Seb Gotch (53) and Matthew Short (52) kept the Proteas bowlers at bay with their 79-run stand with both crossing their respective fifties.
But their momentum was brought to a standstill by a triple strike from Tabraiz Shamsi (4-72) but useful knocks from Sam Harper (41) and Evan Gulbis (53) took them to 258 before they were bowled out in 45.2 overs.
Stephen Cook (11) had another failure to his name but Dean Elgar (40) and Hashim Amla (81 not out) looked solid.
Elgar retired out after facing 60 deliveries to allow other batsmen to have a hit. JP Duminy (17) and Faf du Plessis (12) failed to make useful contribution but Amla completed a fine half-century at the other end.
South Africa eventually ended their innings at 205 for four in 50 overs with Amla and Temba Bavuma (33 not out) remaining unbeaten.
