©Cricket World / John Mallett

Round eight of the Virtual County Championship between Sussex and Middlesex is being held by Cricket World and Dice Cricket to help the fans stay tuned to cricketing action from the comforts of their home amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

Sussex run the risk of ending with the wooden spoon as they have been unable to rise from the string of defeats. The team has won only two and the lost the remaining four of their 6 matches. They are are currently struggling at the last spot in the virtual County Championship division 2 with just 59 points.

The team will face Middlesex who are doing much better and are placed at the third spot with three wins and three losses from 7 matches. One of their games ended in a draw as they sit comfortably with 83 points.

That is despite a four-wicket defeat against Leicestershire in their last game. The team was bowled out for just 211 against Leicestershire's 305 and found it difficult to come back in the match.

Toby Roland-Jones, Tom Lace and Nick Gubbins tried hard to fight back with half-centuries in the second innings and Roland-Jones picked up a match haul of 5 wickets but that still left a bit to be desired as the team fell short by 4 wickets.

On the other hand, Sussex could hardly compete in their last fixture against Derbyshire as they lost by 10 wickets. Tom Haines and Luke Wells were the top scorers for them but the team failed to score in excess of 200 in both the innings. Danny Briggs was Sussex's best bowler with figures of 5/92 in the first innings.

Let's have a look at the probable playing XI of both teams:

Middlesex - Sam Robson, Nick Gubbins, Stephen Eskinazi, Tom Lace, Max Holden, Eoin Morgan, John Simpson, James Harris, Toby Roland-Jones, Steven Finn, Tim Murtagh

Sussex - Philip Salt, Tom Haines, Luke Wells, Stiaan van Zyl, Harry Finch, Ben Brown, Ravi Bopara, Chris Jordan, Jofra Archer, Danny Briggs, George Garton
