WCC was founded in 1862 and we successfully celebrated our 150th anniversary in 2012. Celebrations included a Presidents day game and a summer beer festival, both of which were a great success.

We have been at the current site at Greenway Avenue for over 100 years becoming a multi-sports club in 1925 when the tennis section was formed (originally grass courts now all weather).

A squash section was started in the 1970s and continues to thrive. The club is open all year round and has an active social section from all sports.

Over the years we have had members who have played senior county cricket for Essex. In addition we have produced many colts of both sexes who have represented county and district age group sides with distinction. One lady was with the England Womenís set up. We field four teams in the Essex County League across all their divisions, as well as a friendly Sunday team.

We have around 260 members at present, including a colt section which is flourishing with over 90 members, the highest it has been for some years. As a Club we have always recognised the need to be part of the local community and engage with local key stakeholders and officials. Recent refurbishment of the pavilion was facilitated through a charitable grant and as a result more modern features were installed to allow the physically disabled better access.

The cricket section is run by the cricket committee and our primary aim in to uphold the spirit of cricket and to ensure the successful running of the section. But most of all we want all of our members to enjoy playing cricket.
