Wet outfield abandons third and final T20I as series ends in 1-1 draw
India v Australia
Third Twenty20 International, Hyderabad
Match abandoned due to wet outfield
Wet and soggy outfield at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad has led to the abandonment of the third and final Twenty20 International between India and Australia leading the series to end in a 1-1 draw.
The forecast was for a thunderstorm during the game but instead, heavy rains in the last two days meant the proceedings were delayed by a series of wet patches with the groundsmen working hard with saw dust to dry them off.
An inspection was scheduled by 19:00 local time which was the scheduled start of the game but with the officials unhappy with the conditions, another inspection was set 45 minutes later.
The game was eventually called off by 20:20 local time with the umpires deeming the outfield unsafe to play as the game was abandoned without even the toss happening.
As a result, the three match series ended in a 1-1 draw with India winning the first game in Ranchi and Australia bouncing back with an eight wicket win in the second game in Guwahati.
