Women's T20 Challenge: Trailblazers beat Supernovas to claim title
Trailblazers beat Supernovas by 16 runs in the final of the Women's T20 Challenge to claim the title for the first-time ever at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Monday night.
Asked to bat Trailblazers posted a mere 118 for eight in their 20 overs. Deandra Dottin (20) shared a terrific 71 run opening stand with captain Smriti Mandhana. It was then left to Mandhana to hold the innings together with a 49 ball 68 with five boundaries and three sixes. None of the other batters made any worthwhile contributions. Radha Yadav with figures of five for 16 was the best bowler for Supernovas.
The chase for Supernovas never took off as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur fought bravely as she injured herself. She was out for a 36 ball 30 with two boundaries. Only Shashikala Siriwardene (19) was the only other batter of note for Supernovas. Supernovas finished on 102 for seven in their 20 overs. The best bowlers for Trailblazers were Salma Khatun (3-18) and Deepti Sharma (2-9).
Mandhana was named player of the match, while Radha Yadav walked away with the player of the series award.
