WPL 2023: Delhi Capitals Women vs Gujarat Giants Women, Match 14: Gardner's all-round effort seals win
Gujarat Giants eked out its second win in six games as they beat Delhi Capitals by 11 runs in the Women's Premier League at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.
Asked to bat, Gujarat posted 147 for four in their 20 overs and in response Delhi fell short as they were bowled out for 136 in 18.4 overs.
Earlier, Gujarat was well served by a 49 run second wicket stand between Laura Wolvaardt and Harleen Deol. Wolvaardt finished on 57 off 45 balls with six boundaries and a six. Deol made 31 off 33 balls with four boundaries. Then Wolvaadrt teamed up with Ashleigh Gardner to add 81 runs for the third wicket. Garnder remained unbeaten on 51 off 33 balls with nine boundaries. Towards the end Gujarat finished on 147 for four in their 20 overs. For Delhi the best bowler was Jess Jonassen (2-38).
In their response Delhi was well served by a 38 run second wicket between captain Meg Lanning and Alice Capsey. Then there was a collapse as Delhi slipped from 48 for one to 52 for four. Then Marizanne Kapp tried to hold the innings together with a 29-ball 36 with four boundaries and a six. Kapp received little or no support from others. Then Arundhati Reddy (25) tried to rally the lower order, but it was not enough. In the end Delhi finished on 136 in 18.4 overs. For Gujarat the best bowlers were Kim Garth (2-18), Tanuja Kanwar (2-29) and Gardner (2-19).
