Gujarat Giants finally got their first win in the Women's Premier League (WPL) as they beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 11 runs at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday.

After opting to bat, Gujarat posted 201 for seven in their 20 overs and in their response, Bangalore finished on 190 for six in their 20 overs.

Earlier, Gujarat was well served by a 60 run second wicket stand between Sophia Dunkley and Harleen Deol. Dunkley finished on 65 off just 28 balls with 11 boundaries and three sixes. Deol ended on 67 off 45 balls with nine boundaries and a six. Then Asleigh Gardner added 53 runs for the third wicket with Deol. Towards the end the Gujarat batters used the long handle to good effect. In the end Gujarat finished on 201 for seven in their 20 overs. For Bangalore the best bowlers were Shreyanka Patil (2-32) and Heather Knight (2-17).

In their response, Bangalore started off well as their openers captain Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine added 54 runs for the first wicket. Then Ellyse Perry teamed up with Devine as the two added 43 runs. Devine ended on 66 off 45 balls with eight boundaries and two sixes. In the end Knight remained unbeaten on 30 off 11 balls with five boundaries and a six. But that was not enough as Bangalore ended on 190 for six in their 20 overs. For Gujarat the successful bowlers were Gardner (3-31) and Annabel Sutherland (2-56).
