WPL 2023: Mumbai Indians Women v Gujarat Giants Women, Match 12: Kaur leads from the front, again

Mumbai Indians raced to their fifth straight win in as many games as they beat Gujarat Giants by 55 runs in the Women's Premier League at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday.

After being asked to bat, Mumbai posted 162 for eight in their 20 overs and in response Gujarat was restricted to 107 for nine in their 20 overs.

Earlier Mumbai was well served by a 74 run stand for the second wicket between Yastika Bhatia (44) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (36). Then skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (51: 30b, 7x4, 2x6) added 51 runs for the fourth wicket with Amelia Kerr. Towards the end Mumbai kept losing wickets and the score did not swell much. In the end Mumbai finished on 162 for eight in their 20 overs. For Gujarat the best bowler was Ashleigh Gardner (3-34).

In their response, Gujarat kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Sabbhineni Meghana and Harleen Deol added 34 runs for the second wicket. But post that there was a collapse as Gujarat slipped to 57 for six. Then there was a brief resistance as skipper Sneh Rana and Sushma Verma added 28 runs for the seventh wicket. Then the innings lost wickets in a heap as the side lost momentum. Gujarat ended on 107 for nine in their 20 overs. For Mumbai the best bowlers were Sciver-Brunt (3-21), Hayley Matthews (3-23) and Amelia Kerr (2-18).
