WPL 2023: Mumbai Indians Women v UP Warriorz Women, Eliminator: Wong's 'trick, Sciver-Brunt take Mumbai into final
Mumbai Indians reached the final of the Women's Premier League as they defeated UP Warriorz by 72 runs in the Eliminator clash at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Friday.
After being asked to bat, Mumbai posted 182 for four in their 20 overs and in response UP was bowled out for 110 in 17.4 overs.
Mumbai started off well with their openers Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews adding 31 for the first wicket. Then Nat Sciver-Brunt took charge of the innings. Sciver-Brunt added 60 runs for the fourth wicket with Amelia Kerr which helped swell Mumbai score. Sciver-Brunt remained unbeaten on 72 off 38 balls with nine boundaries and two sixes. Mumbai finished on 182 for four in their 20 overs. For UP the best bowler was Sophie Ecclestone (2-39).
In their response UP had a disastrous start. UP was reduced to 21 for three. Then Grace Harris and Kiran Navgire teamed up to add 35 runs for the fourth wicket. Navgire held the innings together. She top-scored with 43 off 27 balls with four boundaries and three sixes. But the rest of the batters did not show any fight as Mumbai held sway. UP was finally bowled out for 110 in 17.4 overs. For Mumbai Issy Wong picked up the first hat-trick of the tournament as she dismissed Navgire, Simran Shaikh and Ecclestone in the 13th over of the innings. UP slipped from 84 for four to 84 for seven. Wong was the best bowler (4-15) and Saika Ishaque (2-24) was the other successful bowler. Mumbai will now play Delhi Capitals in the final on Sunday.
