
WPL 2023: RCB Women v Gujarat Giants Women, Match 16: Devine blasts Bangalore to second win
Royal Challengers Bangalore raced to their second win in the Women's Premier League as they beat Gujarat Giants by eight wickets at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.
After opting to bat Gujarat posted 188 for four in their 20 overs and in their response Bangalore chased down the target in just 15.3 overs to finish on 189 for two.
Earlier, Gujarat was well served by a 63 run second wicket stand between Laura Wolvaardt and Saabbhineni Meghana. Wolvaardt top-scored with 68 off 42 balls with nine boundaries and two sixes. After Meghana fell for 31, Wolvaardt teamed up with Ashleigh Gardner for the third wicket. Together Wolvaardt and Gardner added 52 runs for the third wicket. Gardner finished on 41 off 26 balls with six boundaries and a six. Towards the end Gujarat finished on 188 for four in their 20 overs. The best bowler was Shreyanka Patil (2-17).
In their chase, captain Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine started off briskly. Together the opener put on 125 in just 9.2 overs. Mandhana made 37 off 31 balls with five boundaries and a six. Devine then went onto add a further 32 runs for the second wicket with Ellyse Perry. Devine ended on 99 off just 36 balls with nine boundaries and eight sixes. Then Perry teamed up with Heather Knight to add the remaining 32 runs required for a win in an unbroken third wicket stand. Bangalore finished on 189 for two in just 15.3 overs.
