
WPL 2023: RCB Women vs Mumbai Indians Women, Match 4: Matthews' stars with all-round show
Mumbai Indians raced to its second win in as many games in the Women's Premier League (WPL) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Monday as they beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by nine wickets.
After opting to bat Bangalore posted 155 in 18.4 overs and in response Mumbai chased down the target in 14.2 overs to finish on 159 for one.
Bangalore started off well with captain Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine adding 39. Then there was a collapse as they slipped to 43 for four. From thereon it was a struggle. There was a sixth wicket stand worth 34 runs between Kanika Ahuja and Richa Ghosh. Then there were useful stands towards the end. Bangalore finished on 155 in 18.4 overs. For Mumbai the best bowlers were Hayley Matthews (3-28), Saika Ishaque (2-26) and Amelia Kerr (2-30).
In their response, Mumbai started well as Yastika Bhatia and Matthews added 45 for the opening wicket. Matthews then teamed up with Nat Sciver-Brunt. Together this pair added 114 runs for the second wicket. Matthews remained unbeaten on 77 off 38 balls with 13 boundaries and a six. Nat Sciver-Brunt finished unbeaten on 55 off 29 balls with nine boundaries and a six. In the end Mumbai ended on 159 for one in just 14.2 overs.
