Yorkshire Claim 2008 Pro Arch Trophy Title

Yorkshire Carnegie beat UAE by 4 wickets at The Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi to end their pre-season tour on a high. When the game commenced this morning any talk of Trophies and glory seemed remote. The UAE won the toss and elected to bat and got off to a rapid start as Yorkshire Carnegie were forced to keep men in the ring throughout the power plays. Excellent bowling from the Carnegie spinners Mark Lawson (9-1-36-3) and David Wainwright (10-3-19-1) restricted the UAE to 190 all out and it was game on. Calculators at the ready Martyn Moxon and his team realised they had to score 191 to win within 25 overs to boost the teams net run rate sufficiently to win the tournament. Greg Wood (50) and Andrew Gale (65) took the score within reach of the winning line and Simon Guy (23) joined the party, and along with Gale brought the victory run rate down below a run a ball. In the chase a flurry of quick wickets kept the UAE interested before Mark Lawson joined Adam Lyth to see Yorkshire Carnegie home with just under an over to spare. Adam Lyth spanked the winning boundary and the celebrations began. © Yorkshire CCC
