Yorkshire Release Three Second Team Players

Three of the current YCCC Second XI team were today notified by the Club that they will not be offered new contracts at the end of the 2007 season. The players concerned are Nick Thornicroft, Chris Gilbert and Greg Norton The players’ details have been circulated to all other First Class Counties and Yorkshire County Cricket Club have committed to the individuals concerned that they will assist in trying to identify alternative clubs in order for them to maintain a career within cricket. Director of Professional Cricket, Martyn Moxon, stated, “It is always difficult to tell young players that they will not be offered new contracts. However, whilst all of them have made contributions to the Club, especially to the 2nd X1, we feel that we are unlikely to be able to offer 1st XI opportunities in the near future. Players in their early twenties need to be challenging for first team slots and therefore we believe that it is in their best interests to seek alternative cricket opportunities elsewhere. We have offered to assist in this process and would wish Nick, Chris and Greg every success in the future.” © Yorkshire CCC
