Young guns set to shine for Blues in Shield
Test squad members David Warner, Josh Hazlewood and Moises Henriques have earned a rest, allowing the call up of youngsters Liam Hatcher, Matthew Gilkes and Lachlan Hearne to the 14-player NSW Blues squad for the Marsh Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania that will begin in Hobart on Saturday.
Experienced opener Daniel Hughes also returns to the squad having missed the Blues miraculous last hour win over South Australia in Adelaide last week with a shoulder complaint.
Warner, Hazlewood and Henriques have been rotated out of the squad following a long period in and out of bubbles and quarantine.
The absence of the star trio affords a potential opportunity to Hatcher, Gilkes and Hearne who have been in solid touch in either List-A or Second Xl cricket in recent weeks.
If 20-year-old Hearne is to earn a berth in the starting Xl for the clash with the Tigers it will be his first Baggy Blue cap.
The Blues contingent features five players who have worn the Baggy Green of Australia in Test cricket, as well as bowling all-rounder Sean Abbott who was part of the Test squad for this summer’s series against India and is currently sixth on the run-scoring list in this season’s Sheffield Shield.
The Blues One Day team leaves for Hobart tomorrow for their clash against Tasmania on Thursday.
