Zimbabwe Appoint Dav Whatmore As The New Coach
Zimbabwe has obtained the services of Dav Whatmore as their coach with the Sri Lanka born Australian accepting the initial contract till the World Cup 2015, early next year.
This will be Whatmore's fourth association as a coach with an international side after Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Whatmore, aged 60 was a part of International Cricket Council’s High Performance Programme helping Afghanistan, Ireland, Scotland and UAE to prepare for the high profile tournament.
Whatmore, who played seven tests for Australia will replace Stephen Mangongo who was removed after Zimbabwe's dismal tour to Bangladesh recently.
Whatmore, who was the coach during Sri Lanka's famous 1996 World Cup triumph believes there is a lot of talent in the current Zimbabwe squad.
"I know this team, I have seen them beating Pakistan, so the potential is there," said Whatmore.
"What we all require is a genuine effort, a duty of care to the employer and a collective effort."
"There are challenges with every position. Coaching is what I do and I enjoy doing it. That's why I am here.” added the Australian.
Whatmore will have a batting coach to assist him while Douglas Hondo will continue to remain as the bowling coach.
