Zimbabwe sack Graeme Cremer from captaincy
Zimbabwe Cricket has confirmed the sacking of captain Graeme Cremer and coach Heather Streak following the team's failure to qualify for the 2019 World Cup.
Zimbabwe remained unbeaten in the group stage and started Super Sixes with an impressive win over Ireland but succumbed to back to back defeats against Windies and United Arab Emirates as they narrowly missed out on the qualification.
Following the outcome, the board has decided to remove the entire coaching panel that includes head coach Streak, batting coach Lance Klusener, bowling coach Douglas Hondo, fielding coach Walter Chawaguta, fitness coach Sean Bell and team analyst Stanley Chioza.
Cremer's role as a captain will now be taken by Brendan Taylor, who looked in impressive form during the tournament.
"Further to our discussions, please give your technical staff (and yourself included) until 3 pm tomorrow to formally resign. After which time the technical team can consider themselves dismissed and relieved of their duties with immediate effect," read an email from Zimbabwe Cricket MD Faisal Hasnain to Streak.
Zimbabwe's Under-19 coach Stephen Mangongo and Zimbabwe A team coach Wayne James were also sacked following the dismal performance of the teams in the World Cup and series against United Arab Emirates respectively.
