Zim v India, 1st ODI: Dominant India take lead with comprehensive win
India took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe with a comprehensive 10-wicket win in the opening game on Thursday.
After being asked to bat, Zimbabwe was bowled out for 189 in 40.3 overs and in response India overhauled the target in 30.5 overs with all its wickets intact as they finished on 192 for no loss.
Earlier, Zimbabwe lost early wickets to be reduced to 31 for four in 10.1 overs. Then captain Regis Chakabva added 33 runs for the fifth wicket with Sikandar Raza. Zimbabwe lost wickets again as they were reduced to 110 for eight. Thereafter, Brad Evans (33 n.o.) added 70 runs for the ninth wicket with Richard Ngarava (34). Zimbabwe were finally bowled out for 189 in 40.3 overs. For India the best bowlers were Deepak Chahar (3-27), Prasidh Krishna (3-50) and Axar Patel (3-24).
In their response, India did not lose wickets. The openers Shubman Gill and vice-captain Shikhar Dhawan added 192 for no loss in 30.5 overs. Dhawan and Gill batted aggressively and with a lot of responsibility as they kept Zimbabwe at bay. None of the Zimbabwe bowlers created any impact on the Indian opening pair.
The second game of the three-match ODI series will be played on Saturday.
