Zimbabwe Women stun Ireland Women with six wicket victory
Zimbabwe Women 211-4 (Musonda 65no) beat
Ireland Women 209 (Kavanagh 53) by six wickets
Fourth Match, Women's Quadrangular Series, Potchefstroom
After a four-wicket haul from Precious Marange restricted Ireland Women to 209, Mary-Anne Musonda and Sharne Mayers led the chase and secured a six-wicket victory to Zimbabwe Women in the fourth match of Women's Quadrangular Series in Potchefstroom.
Zimbabwe won the toss and decided to field first. After Musonda's (2-31) double strike rocketed Ireland early, Leah Paul (33) and Shauna Kavanagh (53) consolidated the innings to close to a 100-run mark.
With Paul sent packing by Loren Tshuma (1-27), Kavanagh too fell on reaching her fifty after which the innings fell apart as Marange (4-32) cleaned the lower order to dismiss Ireland for 209 in 46.1 overs.
In the chase, even though Zimbabwe were precariously placed at 86 for four after double strikes from Rachel Delaney (2-21) and Kavanagh (2-47), Mayers (46 not out) and Musonda (65 not out) saw the team through in 47 overs with their unbeaten 125 run stand.
Musonda was awarded the player of the match as Zimbabwe manage to open their account in the tournament and are placed third while Ireland languish at the bottom of the table with two successive defeats.
